Toys Awakening

Toys come to life when children fall asleep at night. The soldiers are first on the scene and there is a sad old Teddy Bear with one eye missing who has been left in the cupboard for years. Sometimes the toys can be quite noisy, but no matter how quickly you turn on the light they never get caught!

Program Notes

Toys Awakening was inspired by some imaginations far more creative than the composer's. My wife requested a piece for her primary school concert band. I, in turn, approached some very young primary school students for some ideas. These children informed me that the piece should definitely be about toys. After some prompting, they came up with the idea of toys coming to life when children fall asleep at night. The soldiers are first on the scene and there is a sad old Teddy Bear with one eye missing who has been left in the cupboard for years. Sometimes the toys can be quite noisy, but no matter how quickly you turn on the light they never get caught!
