Program Notes
Breaking Their Hold is a bold and aggressive work for orchestra. The intense percussion and dramatic themes are sure to move any audience. Based on a theme written when Noah D. Taylor was a young student, this work was composed for the Westland High School Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Carol Hayward.
A musical story about overcoming powerful opposition and constraint, the juxtaposition of a lush, romantic melody and a forceful rhythmic drive in this work evokes both struggle and triumph.
